1300 Stockcar
This set of pictures
shows the build of Chris' 1300 Stockcar, this was a very big
build with many intricate parts of box section steel, the
car was built using another 1300 Stockcar as a guide plus
there were lots of changes made to suit along the way
The car was originally a
Vauxhall Corsa but only the upper body, suspension / running
gear remain, Vauxhalls make up 99% of the grid at 1300
Stockcar meetings and as the name suggests, only a 1300cc
engine is allowed with minimal modifications to a strict set
of rules
This car has brought
Chris some wins in 2009 and with some minor changes for 2010
we hope it will bring more
1300 Stockcars are again
raced at Buxton Raceway and they were a new formula there
for 2009, the heartland of 1300 Stockcar racing is over on
the East Coast at the ever popular Skegness Stadium where
the driver base is much much larger than at Buxton
Chris took the car to
Skegness Stadium to compete as a seed in the 2009 Gold Roof
Championship, however the team were defeated on that
occasion but we are planning on a return to Skeggy in 2010
1300 Stockcars are a
contact formula, drivers may use their cars to push the car
in front out of the way or spin it round to gain places, due
to the nature of this type of racing the cars have to be
built to last, hence the heavy steelwork.
The fabrication of these
cars is very time consuming due to the amount of steelwork
that needs to be measured, cut, and welded carefully into
place. |
